(The case was: ONE ELEVEN WINES & LIQUORS, INC., A NEW JERSEY CORPORATION, v. Starting in the early 1960’s, years before the Stonewall rebellion, Dick Mack fought back when the NJ Liquor Authority stated that known homosexuals could not congregate in bars without losing their liquor licenses. There were 3 bars consolidated into the Supreme Court case. The bar, Manny’s Den, was named after Dick’s father, Emanuel Makanoff, was one of the early gay bars in New Jersey to fight for our rights. He was a straight man whose family lived down the road from me in Highland Park. Dick Mack was the owner, and he was the son of Emanuel Mackanoff who started the business. By the coincidences of life, when I went to Rutgers I befriended the owner of the Gay Bar that I went to, namely Manny's Den on Albany Street. I am not downplaying the Stonewall Rebellion at the last weekend of June in 1969, and I am proud that I played a part in the LGBT Movement that occurred since then, but I also think that we need to remember those who came before Stonewall and learn what they did. 2 Years before the Stonewall Riots by Rick Landman- June 2019
